April - 2012
Dear Nature Lovers,
Greetings from oikos !
While travelling in Kokan, many roadside trees are seen loaded with green leaves of orchids.
Just watch them closely in this season.. most of them are Acampe praemorsa / Waghri.
Regards,
Ketaki & Manasi.

Acampe praemorsa (Scientific name)
This is a common epiphytic orchid found in coastal belt (Kokan) and Western Ghats. In Marathi, it is called as ‘Waghri’ due to coloration of its flower similar to Tiger skin. It is creamy yellow with red bands. Flowers appear during April to May. It is also called as ‘Brittle tiger’ as flowers are brittle and rigid. Long leaves are seen throughout the year.
