Dear Nature Lovers,
Greetings from oikos !

Grasses are one of the staple food sources for most Indians.
Especially, hill millets like Nachani i.e. Finger millet.
Mostly it is grown on hill slopes after slashing and burning the forests.
It is also grown on edges of the agricultural fields.
Finger millet have been cultivated in India from as far back as 4000 years ago.
Karnataka is the top producer of Ragi and has 58 % share in India's export of this crop.
Once harvested, seeds keep extremely well and are seldom attacked by insects or moulds.
The long storage capacity makes finger millet an important crop for poorer farming communities.
Regards,
Ketaki & Manasi.
