It is believed that every plant has some medicinal value. But many times it’s difficult to cultivate rare & uncommon species. So, we need to protect them with their associates, other plants & animals. Medicines are the toxins developed in plant out of competition and as a reaction to the surrounding conditions. So, best practice would be to conserve large patches of natural vegetation and then harvest medicinal parts.

Manjishtha
Scientific name: Rubia cordifolia
Family: Rubiaceae
Its a small sized climbing herb found in medium to high rainfall areas, in hills. It can be found mainly in shady places, dense forest undergrowth or forest edges.
It can be identified with rough sticky leaves, arranged in whorled manner. Tiny flowers apear in December and are pale yellow to white in colour. Round, small berries, green turning red are seen immediately after flowering.
It is commonly used in cosmetics & ayurvedic medicines for achne, skin disease, jaundice and paralysis.
