Dear nature lovers,
Greetings from oikos !

The name apophyllite is derived from the Greek apophylliso, meaning "it flakes off",

a reference to tendency to flake apart when heated, due to water loss.

These minerals are cavity filling minerals i.e. typically found as secondary minerals in vesicles in basalt or other volcanic rocks. There are various species or types of Apophyllite with different colors - from white , colorless, yellow, brown or light green.

The light green which is also known as Green Apophyllite is specialty of Pune surroundings,

commonly found in Pashan area of Pune city.

This mineral is mostly museum or collector’s pride item, being kept in many museums.

Regards,
Ketaki & Manasi
