Dear Nature Lovers,
Greetings from oikos ! Many times living components in nature are appreciated &
Non living components are neglected or taken for granted ... But those abiotic factors make living possible They form a substratum or base for living beings Rocks, Soils, Minerals, Crude are precious resources ... They are all almost non renewable ... Earth has invested millions of years in shaping them And we are consuming it within few hundred years And the way it is used is not only degrading ecology but also compromising its potential for future generations It takes 500 to 1000 years to form an inch of soil But day by day we are loosing its potential With various developmental activities Say by converting agriculture land to construction or by destroying top soil layer during roads or by selling it off to brick kilns or by removing forests on slopes May be all these activities are inevitable to an extent. Point is, can we match the rate at which resources form, and the rate at which we consume it or destroy its potential ? |
